The TM Society first supported a UK TM Awareness Day in 2011. On and around the 9th June each year, TM Society members, groups and supporters hold events, or do activities, that educate people about TM and about the work of the TM Society.
TM Awareness Day is an opportunity for TM Society supporters to work together to make a difference to the lives of people affected by Transverse Myelitis (TM) and related conditions.

What difference does it make?
Raising awareness among family and friends helps them to better understand the support needs of the person they care for, which is especially important with rare and little-known conditions. Carers also need information and support, and knowing that the TM Society is there to help them too can be a source of comfort.
Sharing information with the general public helps reduce the feelings of isolation TM Society members feel, and educating health and social care professionals about TM, ADEM and NMO means they are better able to provide the right treatment and to work in partnership with their patients to manage the impact of the condition.
Living with a rare condition can be lonely. Raising awareness of TM and related conditions such as ADEM and NMO can help those affected feel less isolated. Awareness Days bring people and organisations from around the UK together for one day, giving them a stronger voice.
Here's how to get involved
Do something as an individual
Support us on Awareness Day by wearing a TM Society ribbon pin or wristband on the day. Or perhaps, deliver some leaflets, or a poster or magazines to your local health and social care professionals. |
Support an existing activity or event
If you hear about an event in your area or you know of an event through your local support group, then go along and lend your support. Organise your own activity or event
Download our Awareness Day Guide for ideas, tips and advice. Your event can be whatever you think will be fun.... whether that's a sponsored walk, a bake sale or a plant sale. And there's more ideas here. |
