POOLE/BOURNEMOUTH TRANSVERSE MYELITIS SUPPORT GROUP
Sponsored Walk 2011
15 Group Member's, Family, Friends and dogs took part in our second sponsored walk on June 5th 2011. We walked in the pouring rain from Poole Quay to Whitecliffe and back (approx 4 miles) and raised a fantastic £1780.86! This money was raised to support the Poole TM Group and the neuro physiotherapy session's that we run prior to three out of four group meetings per year. Thank you to all of you who took part and got soaked in the process!
DONATION FROM MOWER RACE AUGUST 2011
The Poole TM Support group were delighted to receive a donation for £1005.26 in August from Stephen Bell who organised a sponsored Mower Race at the Barley Mow near Wimborne to raise funds and awareness of Transverse Myelitis in memory of his Mum who sadly died in April 2010 following a diagnosis of TM and NMO. Mary Bergin attended a cheque presentation on August 28th, see pictured below standing in the middle of the race track!
It was their wish to use the money to continue to raise awareness about TM and the Poole Support Group.
The Committee have therefore decided use some of this money to advertise the group meetings and put a write up in local papers and magazines with an article about TM. to help raise awareness and the profile of the charity.
A huge thank you to Stephen and his family for the donation.
Sponsored Walk for TM Research April 18th 2010
21 group members from the Bournemouth/Poole TM Support Group along with their partners, family and friends, took part in a 5km sponsored walk from Boscombe to Bournemouth Pier and back on April 18th 2010. Together we helped to raise awareness of the TM Society and raise money for research into Transverse Myelitis currently being undertaken by Consultant Neurologist Dr Anu Jacob at The Walton Neurological Hospital in Liverpool. The TM Society are also helping to fund the first phase of Dr Jacobs research, as British research into TM has not been done before. It is therefore essential to raise awareness and the profile of this rare condition. We raised a whopping £2450.71!!! A huge thank you to all who took part from the Bournemouth area and a special thank you to two people who travelled from Surrey to be part of the walk! We plan another Sponsored Walk on June 5th 2011 - watch this space for further information.

Charity Skydive Summer 2009
Wells and Glastonbury Young Farmers Club from Somerset have decided to have The Transverse Myelitis Society as their chosen charity for this year. The main reason is because the father of three of our members suffers from the condition. After a very informative talk by Patrick's wife, Janet Biss, we agreed that it would be worthwhile trying to raise money for the TM Society as it is not as widely supported as some other charities. To help raise money we are doing a Charity Skydive in Honiton on September 6th 2009. Total raised to date for Poole Support Group and TM Society £8394.65!!
