East Midlands Support Group

The East Midlands Support Group was formed by Jan Ashenden, Irene Allen and David Butcher in 2007. The Group met in April, July and November 2007 at Loughborough Baptist Church, Baxtergate Loughborough but with falling numbers attending it was agreed to abandon the group and offer telephone and email support only.

Many people have recently expressed a wish to attend a meeting so that they can meet other people with TM, we had a very successful meeting in April, but the venue used prefers to let out its room for a full day rather than a two hour meeting. With this in mind the details of our next meeting are as follows:

Our next TM group meeting will be held on Saturday 18th September 2010 2-4pm. The new venue is Lullington Village Hall (Postcode is DE12 8EG for anyone using a satnav) I have enclosed directional notes from each of the main feeder road. The village only has 40 houses and is quite compact so it is easy to navigate, if all else fails head for the church, the village hall is opposite.

I have managed to secure a copy of a new booklet ‘Transverse Myelitis’ produced by the Brain and Spine Foundation for all members, I will bring them to the next meeting. Although people who have had the condition for some time may already know everything within the booklet, it is well produced and I feel well worth having.

Anyone who has been diagnosed with TM, Adem, Devics, (and associated conditions) and any members of their families / carers are welcome to attend.

This meeting has the aim of getting to know other people with the condition and to find out what we all expect from the meetings (do we want to have speakers?). I would appreciate hearing from anyone who thinks that they know of a different meeting venue, should this one not prove to be convenient.

Directional Notes to Lullington Village Hall (DE12 8EG)
The Village Hall is on Main Street – but since few of the roads have street names this isn’t much use! As you can see from the map it is on the main road through the village, opposite the church.

From A38 (Derby, Lichfield, Stoke)
Take the Barton under Needwood / Walton on Trent turnoff. Whether coming from the north or south there is a Little Chef just before the turn off. Once off the A38, head for Walton on Trent. The road approaching the bailey bridge is very narrow. Once over the bailey bridge you will come to a junction (White Swan in front of you). Turn left then immediately right, after 100 yds there is a sharp bend to the left, with a road off to the right, take the road right. (You will pass the school almost immediately on the right).
Continue on this road for several miles, you will come to the village of Coton in The Elms. Carry on through the village on this road; you will go up a hill, down a hill, then up another hill. At the top of the second hill turn left (marked Lullington). You will clearly see the church spire from this road. Keep going through the village on this road, when you get to the red phone box (which will be on your left) the village hall is immediately in front of you.

From A42, M42 Nottingham, Birmingham, Nuneaton.
Get off the A42 / M42 where the two meet (J11) McDonalds on this junction.

Take the A453 Tamworth road. Carry on this road until you get to No Mans Heath – there is a petrol station in this village on the main road. Shortly after the petrol station take the second turn right (the first is marked to Chilcote, the second to Clifton Campville) The turning is a bit awkward. Take this road into the village of Clifton Campville. In the middle of the village you will find a mini island, turn right here (I think it’s called Lullington road). Drive carefully, you have a blind bend which hides a single track river bridge and priority is to oncoming traffic.

Once over the bridge, you will soon spot the church spire. Carry on this road. The village hall is the first building on the right once in the village.

From Leicester & Loughborough
Go through Ashby de la Zouch, and head for Moira. From Moira, carry straight on to Overseale.  When you get to Overseale A444, turn right. You will come to a pedestrian crossing, straight after this turn left (Robin Hood pub on corner). This road will take you out

of the village. Once out of the village you will climb a hill, at the top of the hill turn right (this is the first turning after you have come out of Overseale) There is a newly built house on the corner. Take the third turn on your left (the first is very wide, the second is signposted to Clifton Campville or Netherseale) the third turning has a signpost to Grangewood lodge nursing home, there is a red brick bungalow to your right just before you turn.

This road takes you up into Lullington village. Once you are in the village, continue on this road around a very sharp bend. You will see the red phone box at the end of this road, turn left, the village hall is immediately left.

From Burton on Trent
From Stapenhill, head towards Rosliston. Go through Rosliston until you get to the mini round about, turn right here towards Coton in the Elms. Carry on through Coton on this road until you come to a T junction (phone box and bus shelter will be on your right). Turn left. Go up a hill, down a hill, then up another hill. At the top of the second hill turn left (marked Lullington). You will clearly see the church spire from this road. Keep going through the village on this road, when you get to the red phone box (which will be on your left) the village hall is immediately in front of you.
